2026 election dates
June 26 - August 10
Vote early for the Primary. Hennepin County Government Center will be open to all county residents. If you live in the cities listed below, you can vote at your city’s early voting location:
- Bloomington
- Brooklyn Center
- Brooklyn Park
- Deephaven
- Eden Prairie
- Minneapolis
- Mound
- Plymouth
- St. Louis Park
- Woodland
July 14 - July 28
Candidate filing period open for offices without a primary
July 21
Deadline to pre-register to vote for the Primary
July 24 - August 10
In-person early voting opens for all city locations in Hennepin County. Find the list of days and hours for each early vote location
July 28
Candidate filing period closes at 5 p.m. for offices without a primary
July 30
Candidate withdrawal period ends at 5 p.m. for offices without a primary
August 11
Primary election day - polls open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
September 18
Absentee and early voting open for the General Election
October 13
Deadline to pre-register to vote for the General Election
November 3
General Election Day - polls open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Special elections
Special elections are used to fill vacant offices or decide ballot questions. They can be scheduled at various times during the year and may be held in conjunction with a regularly scheduled election.

County, city and school special elections
If needed, a special election must be held on one of the following dates:
- February 9, 2027 (Second Tuesday in February)
- April 13, 2027 (Second Tuesday in April)
- May 11, 2027 (Second Tuesday in May)
- August 10, 2027 (Second Tuesday in August)
- November 2, 2027 (First Tuesday after the first Monday in November)
Federal and state special elections
May be held at other times.
