Qualifications
You must be at least 21 years old to perform marriage ceremonies in Minnesota. You must also submit a certificate of filing for marriage officiant form, regardless of your religion, title, or position.
You don't have to be a Minnesota resident to file credentials and perform marriage ceremonies in Minnesota.

How to file
- Complete a certificate of filing for marriage officiant form (PDF, 1MB).
- Print but don't sign the application.
- Get your signature on the application notarized. E-notarization is ok.
- Submit your application, documents (if required) and payment by mail, drop-off or in person.

File marriage certificates
The officiant must file the marriage certificate with us within 5 days of the ceremony.
Officiant instructions
- Print or type the names of the witnesses along with your name (the officiant) and credentials on the appropriate lines.
- The applicants, witnesses, and officiant must sign the certificate.
- Make sure the certificate is complete and return it in the pre-addressed envelope within 5 days of the ceremony to:
