Roads and bridges
Cedar Avenue repaving
Hennepin County is making improvements to Cedar Avenue (County Road 152) between Washington Avenue (County Road 122) and 20th Avenue South. This project includes intersection work, paving and restriping to improve accessibility and provide a safer experience for people traveling in and through the area.
Construction updates
Dates are tentative and subject to change.
Through early May
- Cedar Avenue is reduced to a single lane in each direction between Riverside Avenue and the bridge that crosses over Washington Avenue.
- There will be some temporary parking and bike lane closures on the north side of Riverside Avenue near Cedar Avenue.
Crews are making accessibility improvements on the east side of Cedar Avenue first, then moving to the west side of the road.
Early May through June
Cedar Avenue will reopen to traffic; expect occasional single lane closure when project crews are paving and painting the road.
- Crews will repave Cedar Avenue between Washington and 20th avenues. This makes the pavement smoother and safer for the years ahead.
- Crews will paint the lane markings (stripe) between South 6th Street and 20th Avenue South with one travel lane in each direction, a center left turn lane, and a parking lane or shoulder space on each side. When complete, people should experience calmer traffic with lower vehicle speeds.
- Crews will install a pavement preservation coating on the bridge over Washington Avenue and fill pavement cracks and apply a sealant. Be alert for single lane closures or narrower lanes.
