Minnetonka Boulevard reconstruction
Hennepin County, in coordination with the City of St. Louis Park is reconstructing Minnetonka Boulevard (County Road 5) between Aquila Avenue and Highway 100, beginning in 2027.
About the project
When construction is complete, this section of Minnetonka Boulevard will be safer and easier for everyone to use. Improvements include:
- A reconstructed road designed with safety in mind, featuring one lane of traffic in each direction and left turn lanes at key intersections
- New pavement for a smoother, safer road
- Upgraded paths for people walking, biking and rolling, including a protected bike/shared-use path on both sides of Minnetonka Boulevard
- New curbs and ramps at crossings for better accessibility
- A concrete median at the Pennsylvania Avenue, Hampshire Avenue, and Alabama Avenue intersections to help people cross the road
- Updated streetlights, modernized traffic and pedestrian signals, and improved storm sewers
- New trees planted following construction, coordinated with the City of St. Louis Park
Previous engagement
From March 2025 through June 2026, we asked the community near Minnetonka Boulevard about how we can improve the road and make it safe for everyone, including those who walk, bike, roll, take transit, and drive. We used that feedback, along with technical data and city and county policies, to create a final plan for this segment of Minnetonka Boulevard.
