Winnetka Avenue safety improvements
County Road 156 in New Hope
Hennepin County is improving Winnetka Avenue North (County Road 156) from 42nd Avenue (County Road 9) to Bass Lake Road (County Road 10) in New Hope.

Planned improvements
We’re repaving and making changes to Winnetka Avenue North to improve safety and comfort for everyone that uses the road.
Planned improvements include:
- Reducing travel lanes to one in each direction
- Adding a two-way left turn lane or dedicated left turn lane in the middle of the road
- Creating roadway shoulder space for mail and package delivery, garbage pickup, and other curbside services
- Constructing pedestrian crossing improvements such as median islands or bump outs at select locations
- Reconstructing curb ramps to meet ADA standards
Timeline
In 2026, we’ll reconstruct curb ramps and make accessibility improvements at select intersections.
In 2027, we’ll make improvements at intersections throughout the project area, pave Winnetka Avenue and restripe the road. When complete, the road will have one through lane in each direction with a center left turn lane.
